GILBERT G. KRUEGER

Gilbert G. Krueger of Caro, age 83, passed away on Sunday, August 18, 2019, at Ascension St. Mary’s Hospital in Saginaw. Gil was born December 17, 1935, in Wausau, Wisconsin, the son of the late Leonard and Dorothy (Jahnke) Krueger. He grew up in Wausau and graduated from high school there with the class of 1953. He continued his studies at the University of Wisconsin’s School of Education in Madison, graduating in 1957. Gil earned his Master of Arts from The Ohio State University in 1963 and later attended Michigan State University’s doctorate program in biology. He taught science and math to junior high and high school students in the Lansing area for most of his career. Gil retired in 1992 after 34 years of service to public education. He was united in marriage with his first wife, Sandra Krueger in 1959, and she preceded him in death in 2003. He was introduced to the former Eleanor Messer in 2004, and the couple wed on November 13 of that same year. Gil was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Caro and was a devoted and caring family man. He loved the outdoors and the year-round sports it offered. In his later years, he was able to travel the world with Eleanor and deeply enjoyed time spent at the family cottage.  

Gilbert is survived by his wife, Eleanor Krueger of Caro; five children and their spouses: Daniel and Joanna Krueger of Pinckney, Diane Krueger and her companion, Keith Stevenson, of Howell, Deb and Rob Stanford of Williamston, Dawn and Mike Bailey of Spartanburg, South Carolina, Derek and Chris Krueger of Williamston; three step-children and their spouses: Rochelle and Louie Sabo of Marlette, Leslie and Wayne McAlloon of Australia, Bruce Messer of Interlochen; 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister, Joan Kolbeck of Wausau, Wisconsin; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and first wife, Gil was preceded in death by one brother, Richard Krueger, and one great-grandson, Jason McAlloon.  

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 23, 2019, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Caro with Rev. Cameron Steele officiating. Burial will follow later in the day at Lane Heights Cemetery in Lupton. The family will be present to receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. and on Friday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Caro or the Caro Garden Club.
