James Michael Lumsden of Mayville, age 72, passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2019, after a short battle with dementia. Jim was born December 23, 1946, in Mayville to James Barber Lumsden and Marian Adelia (Manwell) Lumsden. After attending many schools due to his father being a minister, Jim graduated from high school with the class of 1965 in Ironwood. He married Dianna Fackler on November 22, 1969. They had two children and were married for nearly 50 years. Jim was a journeyman pipe fitter and worked for General Motors for 30 years until he retired in 1999. In his early years, Jim enjoyed riding horses, participating in local rodeos, playing softball, canoeing, golfing, snowmobiling, motorcycling and watching his children play sports. After he retired, he and his family enjoyed some traveling, snowmobiling, four-wheeling, his “men’s night out” at Jay’s Sporting Goods, woodworking, gardening and watching his grandchildren’s sports and band concerts. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Jim is survived by his wife, Dianna; two children: Tammy Lumsden and Grant (Carol) Lumsden; two grandchildren: Grayson and Ally; five siblings: Shirley (William) Jernstadt, Bob (Kirsti) Lumsden, Don (Char) Lumsden, David Lumsden and Gary Lumsden; and a large extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Marian (Manwell) Lumsden.
In keeping with the family’s wishes, cremation services have been entrusted to Avram Funeral Home, Mayville. Family and friends may gather with the family from 3-7 p.m. Thursday, July 18, 2019, at the funeral home.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 19, 2019, at Avram Funeral Home, Mayville with Chaplain Rodney Sanderson-Smith officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Family Discretionary Fund.
