MARLETTE — Mayville got a lot accomplished at Tuesday’s Marlette track and field invitational, with its boys’ team winning the six-team meet with 199 points, and its girls’ team getting a first-place time of 2:23.84 from Haley Rowbotham in the 800-meter run that’s a new school record.
Marlette was second in the boys’ team standings with 90 points.
The Red Raiders topped the girls’ team scores with a 183, while Mayville was third with 90 points.
Mayville’s boys were led by wins from Jerry Gilbert in both the 110 (17.08) and 300 (43.78) hurdles, Steven Gilbert in the pole vault (9-feet, 6-inches), Austin Middleton in the high jump (6-0) and Jeff Frost in the discus (122-11). The Wildcats also won three out of the four relays: the 400 (49.81), 800 (1:39.26) and 1,600 (3:50.92). Running the 400 were Dillon Andress, Thomas Vogt, Jacob Secord and Zach Smith, while the 800 runners were Jerry Gilbert, Steven Gilbert, Middleton and Nick Kaspers and the Mayville 1,600 runners were Jerry Gilbert, Middleton, Colton Crampton and Steven Gilbert.
Earning second place for Mayville’s boys were James Maddocks in the open 800 (2:23.71), Wyatt Emmons in the 1,600 (4:55.75), Vogt in the 300 hurdles (49.06), Frost in the shot put (45-0), Steven Jackson in the pole vault (8-0) and their 3,200 relay (9:01.35) group of Crampton, Emmons, Cody Stier and Maddocks.
In third place for Mayville’s boys were Kaspers in the 400 dash (58.96) and high jump (5-4), Maddocks in the 1,600 (5:09.16), Aaron Pollard in the shot put (38-4 1/4) and discus (118-10) and Crampton in the long jump (17-1 1/2).
Rowbotham added to her performance by contributing to a win in the girls’ 1,600 relay (4:58.19) with her Mayville teammates Abby Gonzales, Hailey Zuehlk and Haley Slusher, while Zuehlk added a win in the 400 dash (1:12).
Adding second-place Mayville girls’ finishes were Slusher in the 400 dash (1:13) and its team of Gonzales, Rowbotham, Zuehlk and Slusher in the 3,200 (11:48.80).
Third-place finishers for Mayville’s girls included Grace Middleton in the discus (85-4 1/2), Zuehlk in the long jump (13-3) and Madyson McDonald in the 100 dash (14.92).
