Barbara Jo “Barb” Summersett of Caro, age 74, passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2019, at her son’s home in Tucson, Arizona, surrounded by her loving family. Barb was born December 7, 1944, in Saginaw, the daughter of the late Lynn and Betty (Collins) Hiser. She was united in marriage with Thomas Summersett on April 6, 1963, in Caro. After 55 years of marriage, Tom preceded her in death on May 3, 2018. Barb was a devoted and loving wife, adored and compassionate mother, and an awesome grandma and great-grandma. She was a woman loved by many. Barb was considered a “second mom” to her children’s friends and her friends’ children. She loved them all as if they were her own. She was the rock of her family and a great listener, too. Barb was employed at the Caro State Hospital for years, was a babysitter at one time, and even an Avon representative in between. At home, you could always expect a meal at 5 p.m. Don’t be late! Meal time was family time and it held true right up until her death. She loved spending time with her family and friends. It didn’t matter what was going on, playing cards, Farkle (dice game) or just sitting around the table during the morning “coffee brunch” hour, she was there. You could always count on hearing her infectious laugh when in her company.
Barb is survived by her children and their spouses: Rob and DeeAnn Summersett, Chris and Kim Summersett, Kevin Summersett and Denise Debolt, Alisha Summersett, Marc and Sue Summersett; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Paula (Hiser) Salata; brother-in-law, Tom Nowland; sister-in-law, Fran (Lucik) Hiser; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Barb was preceded in death by two siblings: Carol Nowland and Gary Hiser.
In keeping with Barb’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2019, at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro with Pastor Brad Speirs officiating. The family was present to receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, April 19, 2019, from 4-8 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Watrousville United Methodist Church or the Novesta Church of Christ.
