Theodore (Tedd) William Begeman, Sr. died unexpectedly Thursday, Nov. 15, in his winter home in Donna, Texas. Tedd was born on September. 29, 1940, in Wyandotte to Fern (LeBlanc) and Louis Begeman, Tedd was the youngest of four. The Begeman family moved to Tuscola county, where Louis farmed 40 acres outside the Caro area. Tedd completed the early years of school in a one-room schoolhouse on Dutcher Rd. and then high school in Caro where he graduated in 1959. He was President of the FFA (Future Farmers of America) his senior year in high school and was quite popular with his sharp wit and keen sense of humor. Tedd was a self-taught rhythm guitar player and enjoyed playing the old standards with his dad, Louis, who played the fiddle. He also enjoyed roller skating and while skating at a rink in Flatrock, he met the love of his life, Dorthia Davis. Tedd wasted no time laying on the Begeman charm and they were married May 4, 1962.
Tedd learned skilled trades and went to work for Oldsmobile in Lansing as a Tool and Die Maker. While working and raising a family, Tedd completed his Bachelor of Science degree from Michigan State University in 1975 and went on to earn a Master of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin – Stout in 1977. He began teaching skilled trades at Fox Valley Technical Institute in Appleton, Wisconsin, and Delta College in Bay City, where he ultimately retired.
Tedd enjoyed playing rhythm guitar in various jam sessions in and around the RV parks in Arizona and Texas where he and Dorthia wintered. He learned more chords over the years and loved the friends he made through music. Whether wearing a crazy hat or provocative (funny) shirt, Tedd would get a smile. He was a social butterfly – with a joke to tell.
Tedd is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dorthia; children: Ted Begeman, Jr. of Nashville, Tennessee, Lory Fenske of Uvalde, Texas, and Sue Begeman (Mike Tetil) of Akron; grandchildren: Vassana Srinual (Josh Painter), Jenny Seay (Ben Blackford), Meghan Fenske, Nicole Silver and Dorothie Lyon; great-grandchildren: Kaitlyn Cole and Cam Painter; sister-in-law, Mary Begeman: brothers-in-law: Bob (Becky) Davis and Homer (Nancy) Davis; and his cousin, Joanie (Floyd) Thomas. Tedd is preceded in death by his parents, his infant sister, Lynn, his brothers: Jack and Ron (sister-in-law, Helen); and his nephews: Ron Begeman and Michael Begeman.
A memorial for Tedd is being planned for June 2019.
