Ruth Rummel of Reese, age 87, died Sunday evening, December 2, 2018, at Covenant Glen in Frankenmuth. She was born July 17, 1931, in Unionville, daughter of the late Otto and Helen (Gettel) Gaeth. She was a 1949 graduate of Unionville High School. On February 13, 1954, she was married to Donald A. Rummel in Sebewaing. He predeceased her January 14, 1994. Ruth retired from Michigan Bell Telephone Company in Saginaw after many years of service. She was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Reese and served as a member of the Mary Martha Guild. Ruth was also a member of the Vassar Golf and Country Club and had a passion for playing golf, especially with her husband Don, She was very proud of having two holes-in-one during her years of golfing. Playing cards and playing Scrabble were two of her hobbies and still remains undefeated playing Scrabble against her son.
Surviving are her son and daughter and their spouses; Rebecca and Todd Ferguson of Traverse City, and Steven and Lisa Rummel of Charlotte, North Carolina; grandchildren: Sara (Leland) Kienbaum, Kelsey (Anthony) Armour, Alex Rummel, and Dana (Jake) Schuster; great-grandchildren: Landon and Shane Kienbaum; and brother, Roland Gaeth of Saginaw. In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth was predeceased by her brother, Edgar Gaeth and her sister, Eleanor Christain.
Funeral Services will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 6, 2018, from the Trinity Lutheran Church in Reese. Reverend Daniel Burhop and Vicar Timothy Sheridan will both officiate with the Rite of Committal to follow in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Ruth’s family received friends at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home, 9940 Saginaw Street in Reese on Wednesday from 2-7 p.m. and at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the services. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Alzheimer’s Association or Covenant VNA Hospice in Saginaw.
