Christine (Thomas) Young of Unionville, age 67, passed away peacefully at her home on July 6, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. Christine was born September 2, 1950 in Bad Axe, the daughter of the late Vern and Wanda (Morgan) Thomas, and started her first job assisting her father and grandfather in the commercial fishing business with Thomas Fisheries at age 12. She was raised in Unionville and was a 1968 graduate of Unionville High School. After graduation, Christine worked for Dow Chemical as a transportation analyst, Huron-Sanilac-Tuscola Associated Health Department as a marketer, Bay Regional Medical Center as a marketer, MPS Weight Loss & Wellness as a director, and Chemical Bank as a mortgage officer. She loved every job she had. She had a huge and giving heart and shared her energy and talents with the community, volunteering countless hours in local organizations including: Helen M. Nickless Free Clinic, SIDS Support Group facilitator, Tuscola Sr. Alliance Chair, Huron Senior Ball and Senior Fair, LEAD Tuscola Chair, Tuscola EDC Board Chair, Greater Thumb Agriculture Business Center, Home Builders Association, Rotary, American Legion Auxiliary, Moravian Church Elder and Moravian Church Mission Team member. Christine loved big water, Saginaw Bay, Lake Huron, and the Atlantic Ocean were some of her favorites. Her fourth birthday cake was a boat, and she was wheeling a large fishing boat (The Scotty) at age 12, when she was too small to even see the water and used only the compass. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her grandchildren, which she did often. Christine was extremely proud of her three children and their life accomplishments. She loved doing anything with her husband, Tom and they considered every day an adventure. Those who knew Christine, loved her for her happy, giving, compassionate, spiritual, loving heart, and now there is another star shining down from Heaven. As it became clear in Christine’s final months that she would lose her valiant battle with cancer, she reflected on how blessed she was to be surrounded by such a wonderful family, and the outpouring of love from her beloved community. She also enjoyed spending time at the family cabin in the Upper Peninsula where she could enjoy the beauty of the wildlife around her, search for flowers and cut wood. She also enjoyed walking on the beach in Florida where she and Tom spent many winters.
Christine is survived by her loving husband of 19 years, Thomas Young; three children and their spouses, Amanda (Louis) Boggs of St. Clair Shores, Danae Hoppe (Dan Robbins) of Bay City, Zachary (Amanda) Hoppe of Unionville; step-daughter, Amy Lynn Young of Lake Orion; grandchildren, Curtis Ramirez, Brayden Hoppe, Lux Hoppe, Case and Harper Boggs; siblings and spouses, Ann (Roger) Allen of Unionville, Alice (Lonnie) Vermeersch of Unionville, Rita Thomas of Scottsdale, Arizona, Mary (Josh) Hooper of Merritt Island, Florida, Cyril Thomas of Unionville, Herb (Pam) Young, Nancy (Randy) Frenzel; and sisters through love, Dianna Schafer and Janice Briolat.
