Bert Arnold Vant of Caro, age 91, passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at Heritage Hill Assisted Living in Caro. Bert was born November 17, 1926 in Elkhorn, Wisconsin, the son of the late Arthur and Violet (Baker) Vant. He served for three years in the U.S. Navy and would later receive a degree in Mortuary Science. In 1948, Bert was united in marriage with the former Doris Elaine Soule, and she passed away on January 17, 2002. He later married Nancy Frederick on July 24, 2006 in Caro and she survives. He worked for many years as a farmer in Kingston and also served as the assistant superintendent of the Caro Department of Public Works. Bert also owned and operated his own plumbing business in Caro until his retirement in 1981. Following his retirement, he moved to Florida where he drove school bus for ten years. Bert was a member of the Caro United Methodist Church, Caro American Legion Post #7, Caro Mt. Moriah Lodge #226 F&AM, and enjoyed shuffleboard, hunting, collecting antiques, and fishing. He also enjoyed time spent at his cabin in Higgins Lake, woodworking, and road trips with his grandchildren.
Bert is survived by his loving wife, Nancy; two children, Diane Wise of Georgia, David and Vicki Vant of Georgia; five grandchildren, Emily Shrontz, Ryan Wise, Cassyann Vant, Kaila Klemenc, Kyle Klemenc; five great-grandchildren, Grant Gurr, Heidi Shrontz, Cameron Shrontz, Nix Klemenc, Bindi Klemenc; one sister and one brother, Joyce Aldrich and Lawrence “Butch” Vant, both of Wisconsin; one step-son, Tim and Susan Wooster. In addition to his parents and his first wife, Doris, Bert was preceded in death by his daughter, Bonnie Vant in 2015.
Funeral services were held at 7 p.m. on Friday, November 24, 2017 at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro with Rev. Dr. Tony Tomasino officiating, with military honors following provided by the Caro American Legion Post #7. The family was present to receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 3 p.m. until the time of the service at 7 p.m. Burial will follow at a later time at Oakwood Cemetery in Lyon Township, Michigan.
