Catherine Sophie Brzezinski of Kingston, age 80, passed away Monday, July 31, 2017 at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak with her family by her side.
She was born August 22, 1936 in Warsaw, Poland, daughter of the late Joseph and Viola (Malinowski) Hill. Catherine graduated from Immaculata High School. She attended and graduated from Marygrove College in 1958 receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in education. Catherine continued her studies at the University of Michigan. She married Philip Brzezinski on June 28, 1958 in Hamtramck and they were married until his passing on November 18, 1987. Catherine was a teacher for 50 years beginning her career in Detroit Public Schools, then going to Royal Oak Public Schools, Imlay City Public Schools, retiring from Kingston Public Schools in 2009. She was a member of Holy Family Parish, St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, serving on the Church Council and the Diocese Financial Council. Catherine was also a member of the Kingston Quilt Guild. She enjoyed reading, quilting, sewing, cooking and crocheting.
Catherine is survived by two daughters, Carol (Michael) Ley of Lake Orion and Susan Brzezinski of Kingston; two sons, Ted (Tammy) Brzezinski of Kingston and Jim (Rhonda) Brzezinski of Sandusky; a daughter-in-law, Sherry Brzezinski of Marquette; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one son, Joseph Brzezinski and one brother, Chester Hill.
The family received friends from 2-8 p.m. Friday, August 4, 2017 at Marsh Funeral Chapel in Marlette with a Rosary Service at 7 p.m.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 5, 2017 at Holy Family Parish, St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Marlette with Father Robert Schikora officiating. Burial will take place at St. Elizabeth Catholic Cemetery.
