A dashboard camera in a Tuscola County Sheriff’s Department patrol car captured a frightening accident in Elmwood Township Friday.

The accident occurred at the intersection of Bay City-Forestville and Jacob roads at about 2:30 p.m. on Friday (see map, below).

Police say Deputy Ryan Herford was running stationary radar at the scene and the accident occurred right in front of him. The accident was captured on his in-car video system.

Subsequent investigation determined a 22-year-old woman from Sears, Michigan was northbound on Jacob Road, driving a 2016 Jeep Cherokee, when she blew a stop sign at Bay City-Forestville Road.

Her vehicle struck and eastbound 2002 Chevrolet Suburban being driven by a 47-year-old Gagetown woman. The Suburban  lost control, left the roadway, and rolled over several times, as can be seen on the video.

The Gagetown woman was flown by Flight Care helicopter to St. Mary’s of Michigan Hospital in Saginaw.

Per the most recent update provided by police, she is in critical condition.

The Sears woman claims to have been distracted by a downed power line and broken utility pole that was near the intersection.

She was not injured.

Police were assisted by Gagetown Police, Gagetown Fire Department, and MMR Ambulance.

The accident remains under investigation.
