george ahern picGeorge R. Ahern of Kingston, age 89, passed away March 8, 2017 at the United Hospice Service of Marlette Regional Hospital.

Funeral sevices will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 11, 2017 at the Mayville United Methodist Church in Mayville with Pastor Carole Brown officiating.

Family will receive visitors Saturday, March 11, 2017 from 10 a.m. until time of service at the church.

Interment will be at the St. Patrick Cemetery in Clifford with military honors conducted by the Mayville/Vassar VFW Post 10884 and American Legion Post 181 of Mayville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Mayville VFW Post 10884.

George was born November 15, 1927 to James G. and Cathern (Broadrick) Ahern. He served as a veteran in the Navy and Army during World War II. He worked at Truck & Bus for 35 years. George loved being outdoors hunting, fishing, and playing Blooper ball and baseball. He also enjoyed woodworking and playing cards in Silverwood at Hollywood and Vine. George is survived by one daughter, Pamela (Ahern) Tyll; a grandson Steven R. (Richelle) Vaughan; two great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Wylie; one brother, Haven (Ruth) Ahern; and a stepsister Florence (Jack) Godfrey.

George was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Debra L. (Ahern) O’Conner; six brothers, Gerald, Norbert, Vincent, James; two half-brothers, Raymond and Kenneth Smoch; and a half-sister, Mavis (Hilton) Sarles.
