FAIRGROVE TWP. — Matt and Beth Kirk have big plans for their newly acquired business and this spring, those plans will break ground.
The couple officially took ownership of the Victor Drag Company at 4026 W. Gilford Rd., on January 1. Though they are still operating the store at that location, they plan on having a new store in just a few months.
“The store will be 42 by 80 for the retail side and the shop will be 30 by 50,” said Matt Kirk.
The new store will also be known as Kirk’s Supply and will be located at 3971 Fairgrove Rd., between Merry and Sheridan roads.

“The customers have been excited that the doors are not closing,” said Victor Trisch, who owned the Victor Drag Company with his father, Jack. “It’s a good transition and we’re excited for them and we hope they do well.”
In addition to many of the services and retail supply that Victor Drag Co. provides, the Kirks are adding to the inventory and amping up the business. They will again offer Dixon mowers and service.
“They used to sell Dixon mowers here,” said Matt Kirk. “People have asked if we would ever offer them again so I think that will be popular.”
Matt Kirk is no stranger to lawn equipment. He also owns and operates Kirk’s Creative Landscaping.
Kirk’s Supply will continue to offer Interstate batteries and a wide selection of Carhart clothing. While Victor Drag Co. was known for their Carhart retail, the Kirks said they will likely increase the offerings and do special orders more frequently.
The Kirks will also continue to offer fresh roasted peanuts — a big draw for many in the area and former owner Jack Trisch’s specialty.
“Jack has been teaching me,” said Beth Kirk about the roasting process.
The Kirk’s have been involved with the daily operation of the business for some time. While the Trisch’s never formally put the store up for sale, Victor Trisch extended the offer to Matt Kirk.
“This is the best possible scenario,” said Victor about the new ownership.
The Kirk’s energy is going to be essential to growing the business, he added. In addition, their knowledge of new products such as brick pavers and more landscaping items will be key.
“We will be offering bird seed,” said Matt Kirk. “We’re looking to offer a lot!”
Beth Kirk said they want Victor Drag’s current customers to feel welcome at the new store.
“We want the same atmosphere but at the same time, we want a younger crowd and others who haven’t considered it before,” she added.
The Kirk’s are currently working on getting the prospective property for their new store re-zoned. If zoning comes through and the weather cooperates, they could break ground on the Kirk’s Supply store in March.
