CARO — Teams from the Tri-Valley East gathered at Caro Golf Club on Wednesday to participate in yet another conference Jamboree.
Caro totaled the low score for the day, finishing with a 156 while Garber came in second at 162. Leading the victors was Adam Wendling, who shot a one-over par 36, while Kyle Niswander brought in a 39. Justin Tomlinson shot a 40 while Michael Kunz finished with a 41.
Frankenmuth, who came in fourth place after totaling a team score of 172, was led by Phil McCain’s 38 while Nate Maroun and Jordan Walker each carded a round of 44. Joel Warnemuende finished with a 46.
Nick Kreiner led North Branch to a team score of 190 with his round of 44 while Austen Waterman shot a 45. Jack Schulte brought in a 46 while teammate Joey Schulte shot a 55. Millington rounded out the six-team field with a team score of 207. Kevin Richardson paced the Cardinals with a 50 while Dillon Leix carded a 51. John Bowman and Austin Weber shot a 52 and 54 respectively.
On Saturday, May 5, those same teams traveled to North Branch’s home course – Washakie Golf, where the Tigers fired a record-setting round of 145. Caro’s score tied the Washakie course record and set a new team record by nine strokes. Birch Run finished their day with a team score of 155 while Frankenmuth and Garber each totaled a 160.
Wendling led the Tigers with a 34 while Tomlinson brought in a 35. Michael Kunz shot a 37 for Caro while Kyle Niswander finished with a 39.
The Eagles were led by Phil McCain, who shot a 34, while Zach Brewer piled up a 38. Jack Schulte and Austen Waterman paced the Broncos with identical rounds of 41 while Millington’s Austin Weber and Kevin Richardson carded a 43 and 45 respectively.
With just two events left in league play, Caro leads the pack by two strokes at 648 while Birch Run sits at 650. Garber is resting nicely at 658 while Frankenmuth is in fourth at 666.
Cass City finishes behind champion Lakers in Greater Thumb West standings
CASS CITY — The Greater Thumb West wrapped up its conference schedule on Thursday with their final league jamboree, which took place at Cass City’s Rolling Hills Golf Course.
Tyler Matteson led Elkton-Pigeon-Bay Port to victory with his nine-hole round of 39 while Bad Axe’s Brandon Dean carded the same score. Drew Lawrence and Wade Foltz also carded 40’s for the Lakers.
EPBP won the final league event with a team score of 163 while Cass City finished second with a total of 173.
The Red Hawks were paced by Trenton Loomis and Brandon Green who each shot a 41 while Michael Mulligan finished with a 44. Drew King and Anthony House brought in identical scores of 47 alongside teammate Theron Bogart, who shot a 49.
Vassar ended the round in third place after piling up a team score of 183. Austen Coners and Michael Cox paved the way for the Vulcans with a pair of 45’s while Austin Baker finished with a 46. Chase Langenburg shot a 47 on the day while Jake McIntyre posted a 49.
Unionville-Sebewaing’s team rounded out the six-team field with their score of 221. Dan Houthoofd led the Patriots with his low-score of 50 while Derik Wurst and Brandon Viele each shot a 55. Luke Ewald finished with a 61 for the day.
With their first place finish on Thursday, the Lakers were crowned champions of the GTW with a total of 34.5 points while Cass City finished runner up at 29.5. Vassar took third in the league with a total of 23 points.
