Michigan State Police Caro Post activity in Tuscola County, Aug. 20-27

Aug. 20

Trooper stopped a vehicle on Mertz Road, Caro, Tuscola County for disregarding a red light. Driver also had a suspended driver’s license and was cited for failure to stop at a traffic light and driving while license suspended (second offense).

Trooper was dispatched to a female in full arrest on M-46, Denmark Twp. Trooper arrived, and the female was lying next to her truck. The trooper checked pulse (weak) and the female had shallow breathing. EMS arrived and transported the subject to a local hospital.

Trooper was dispatched to the Caro Center, Indianfields Township for a trespassing complaint. Caro Center staff inadvertently discovered video on Facebook showing young individuals trespassing on State property in abandoned buildings. It is believed the subjects were ghost hunters. The complaint remains open pending contact with suspects.

Trooper stopped a vehicle on Akron Road, Fairgrove Twp. for loud exhaust. Driver had a suspended driver’s license and was cited for driving with a suspended license (third offense).

Central dispatch put out a be-on-the-lookout for a suspected drunk driver on Caro Road, Caro. The trooper located the vehicle and observed his driving and stopped the vehicle. The driver was arrested for operating under the influence and a blood draw was done at McLaren Caro Region Hospital. Because of health issues, doctors would not clear the suspect to be lodged in jail. A warrant request will be submitted.

Troopers were dispatched to Lighthouse Rehabilitation, Caro, for an assault and battery on a staff member by a female residing at the facility. The facility’s policy mandated them to call an ambulance also. Troopers assisted with the restraint and the female was transported to McLaren Caro Region for evaluation. Troopers will submit a warrant request on female to the Prosecutor’s Office.

Trooper stopped a vehicle on M-46 Wells Twp., for a traffic violation. Subject was arrested for driving while license suspended (fourth offense).

Trooper was dispatched to Dayton Road, Indianfields Twp. for a personal-injury accident. Driver stated she swerved to miss a dog and went off the road, hitting a tree. Driver of the vehicle suffered leg pain and was transported by her husband to a local hospital.

Troopers were dispatched to Hurds Corner Road, Dayton Twp. for an argument complaint. Contact was made with both parties and no assault occurred.

Trooper dispatched to a car/dog incident on Swaffer Road, Millington Twp.

Trooper dispatched to investigation a fraud complaint on Van Buren Road, Reese. No additional info is available.

Aug. 21

Troopers were dispatched to a family argument on Howard Street. Deford. Troopers met with both subjects and no assault took place.

Trooper was dispatched to Caro Road, Almer Twp. for a breaking-and-entering complaint. The building is located on the soccer field and after the trooper talked with the complainant, he did not want to press charges. He believed the suspects were kids. Stolen from the concession stand were several items of food. He was not sure how the subjects had entered the clubhouse.

Trooper was dispatched to a welfare check on Deckerville Road, Wells Twp.  Caller stated that she had not heard from the male subject in a day. Trooper located the male subject and found he was in good health.

Trooper was dispatched to a van on private property on M-24, Indianfields Twp. Owner was contacted and the vehicle was removed.

Trooper was dispatched to a possible child-abuse complaint in Novesta Twp. An anonymous caller stated that a 15-year-old was being forced to use illegal drugs and was sexually abused. A forensic interview was scheduled. The incident is pending further investigation.

Aug. 22

Trooper dispatched to a single-vehicle accident on Deckerville Road, Almer Twp. Driver stated that a vehicle in front of her stopped to make a turn into a driveway. She swerved from hitting the rear of the vehicle, crossing the opposite lane and going into a ditch. There were no injuries. Driver was cited for failure to stop at assured clear distance.

Troopers were dispatched to Terbush Road, Watertown Twp. for a domestic assault. Trooper arrived and took statements from all the subjects involved and sent it to the Prosecutor’s Office for review.

Trooper was dispatched to a car/deer incident on Caro Road, Almer Twp.

Trooper was dispatched to Vader Road, Columbia Twp., for a civil dispute. Trooper met with complainant who was walking down the road with her sister. Trooper interviewed all the subjects involved and found no assault took place.

Aug. 23

Trooper was dispatched to a welfare check on Deckerville Rod, Indianfields Twp. Complainant requested a check on his grandmother. The troopers met with her and she was in good health.

Trooper was dispatched to Sheridan Road, Caro, for a child dispute. Complainant stated that during a child exchange, her ex-sister-in-law was yelling and screaming at her. It was determined no assault took place.

Trooper was dispatched to Watertown Twp., for a suicidal subject and possible drug overdose. Both the trooper and MMR arrived, and the female subject requested to be transported to McLaren Caro Region Hospital for an evaluation. 

While troopers were investigating a domestic assault, they located a vehicle on the side of the roadway on Bradford Road, Gilford Twp. The female driver was found to be intoxicated and was arrested and transported to the Tuscola County Jail.

Aug. 24

Trooper was dispatched to North Street, Tuscola Twp., for two subjects refusing to leave and damaging property. It was discovered they were tenants and had the legal right to be at the residence.

Trooper was dispatched to Thomas Road, Fairgrove Twp. Complainant called the post stating that he was delivering mail and located a bag of marijuana in the mailbox at a specific address. Trooper checked the address, and no one resided at the residence, the house was vacant.

Trooper was dispatched to a car/deer incident on Hurds Corner Road, Ellington Twp.

Trooper stopped a vehicle on Grant Street, Caro, for defective equipment. Driver was arrested for driving while license suspended and minor in possession of tobacco.

Trooper was dispatched to a juvenile runaway complaint on Vader Road, Columbia Twp. Contact was made with the mother who stated her daughter left two days ago with her sister after a dispute with her mother. The trooper contacted the daughter in Brighton and they agreed to return the following day.

Trooper was dispatched to Main Street, Akron, to assist the Akron Fire Department with a structure fire and traffic control.

Aug. 25

Troopers received a be-on-the-lookout for a blue minivan driving all over the roadway in the area of West Sanilac Road, Indianfields Twp. The van was located and the driver was arrested for Operating while under the influence. A blood draw was conducted at McLaren Caro Region Hospital. Suspect was lodged at the Tuscola County Jail.

Trooper was dispatched to needles located on M-24, Indianfields Twp. The needles were located on a rock tied together with a hair tie. The needles had orange caps. They were taken to McLaren Caro Region Hospital for disposal.

Trooper was dispatched to a well-being check on Deckerville Road, Kingston Twp. No additional info available.

Trooper was dispatch to Burnside Street, Caro, for a domestic assault. Contact was made with the victim, who stated he was assaulted by his mother who threw a Styrofoam cup at him inside the car. Also, she was calling him names. The mother was contacted and advised that her son has a learning disability and is bipolar. She had an argument with her son about the cup and when she threw it, she did not mean to hit her son. The complaint was civil, no assault took place.

Trooper was dispatched to North Street, Fairgrove, for a breaking-and-entering complaint. No additional info is available.

Trooper was dispatched to Main Street. Novesta Twp., for a domestic dispute in progress. Trooper arrived, and learned the suspect had already left the residence and was at his mother’s house. After interviews of both parties, it was found to be just a verbal argument occurred on this date. An assault occurred the day prior at this residence. The soon-to-be-ex-boyfriend pushed the complainant on the bed causing her to hit the headboard a few times. She stated when he pushed he to the bed, she hit her leg causing her leg to bruise. Suspect advised he would not make any contact with the complainant. A warrant request was submitted to Prosecutor’s Office.   

Troopers assisted the Caro Police Department with a weapons complaint that had occurred on Deckerville Road, Almer Twp. After an investigation at the scene, troopers interviewed two suspects at the Caro Post and turned the investigation over to the Caro P.D.

Trooper was dispatched to Centerline Road, Koylton Twp., for a dog-at-large complaint. The dog is suspected of killing livestock. No additional info is available.

Trooper was dispatched to Evergreen Road, Indianfields Twp. for a civil complaint regarding child custody. Subject was advised to contact Tuscola County Probate Court.

Aug. 26

Trooper was dispatched to Sheridan Road, Vassar Twp., for a car/turkey incident. 

Trooper was dispatched to a child-abuse complaint on Vader Road, Unionville. No additional info available.

Trooper was dispatched to Caro Road, Reese, for a property-damage accident. Driver No. 1 stopped in roadway due to construction. Driver No. 2 did not see vehicle stopped in roadway and rear-ended it. Driver No. 2 was cited for not stopping at an assured distance.

Trooper was dispatched to a larceny complaint on Weaver Road, Tuscola Twp. Complainant said someone had stolen numerous types of jewelry and a handgun. Entry was gained through a door which was damaged to gain entry. The investigation is ongoing.

Trooper was dispatched to a breaking-and-entering complaint on Centerline Road, Koylton Twp. No additional info is available.

Aug. 27

Trooper was dispatched to Deford to assist the Tuscola County Sheriff’s Office with a subject who fled during a chase. The subject was located in a ditch area. 

Troopers were dispatched to Main Street, Millington for shots fired. Two males broke in the below venue and possibly shot at a female. A male victim jumped out the window. Two male suspects fled in a white truck. No additional info available.

Troopers assisted the Caro Police Department on a civil issue on Caro Road, Caro. Complainant called to report that his tenant was driving through his yard. Contact was made, and the tenant advised he would no longer drive through the yard.

Trooper was requested by Bay County Central Dispatch to contact a family on Richville Road, Tuscola Twp. A subject was involved in an accident in Bay City and it requested the trooper to contact a family member.

Trooper was dispatched to a stolen-vehicle crash on Anderson Road, Silverwood, Tuscola County.

Trooper was dispatched to Edgewood Drive, Caro, for an internet-scam report. Subject stated her computer froze and locked her computer screen. She then received calls from a subject who stated he was from Microsoft and asked her to send six $500 gift cards. Complainant did not provide the information to the caller.

The trooper was dispatch to a car/deer incident on Marlette Road, Watertown Twp.

Trooper were dispatched to a civil dispute on Main Street, Deford. No additional info available.
