Sandra “Sandy” Hills Flintoft of Jackson, and long-time resident of Caro, age 67, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 26, 2020, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Sandy was born October 3, 1952, in Jackson, the daughter of the late Warren Melrose and Pauline Eleanor (Griffes) Hills. She graduated from Parkside High School in Jackson with the class of 1970, continued her studies at Central Michigan University, and later attended nursing school in Alma, graduating in 1974. Sandy later attended Spring Arbor College in Spring Arbor where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Family Education in 2000. Sandy enjoyed caring for people, which is one of many traits that allowed her to be a wonderful emergency room nurse at W. A. Foote Hospital in Jackson, before beginning her 25-year career in 1985 as a psychiatric nurse with the State of Michigan at the Caro Center, until retiring in 2010 as a nursing instructor in Staff Development. She then moved to Plainfield, Illinois to be with family.

Sandy was an active mother of four children and was happiest when she could be with family, and especially cherished time spent with her grandchildren. She loved dogs, and was actively involved with the Cass River Pet Friendz. She also enjoyed taking part in any adventure including hiking, camping, reading, and traveling.

Sandy is survived and will be dearly missed by her three children and their spouses: Tim and Kate Flintoft of Yokosuka, Japan, Angela and Justin Olson of Plainfield, Illinois, and Warren and Adrienne Flintoft of Atkinson, New Hampshire; eight grandchildren: Anna, Leyna and Norah Flintoft, Olivia, Avery and Owen Olson, and Griffin and Gracyn Flintoft; two sisters: Cindy and Bill Houchin of Jackson, and Michelle Beard of Three Rivers; sister-in-law, Marcia Hoxie of Jackson; many nieces and nephews; and so very many friends. In addition to her parents, Sandy was preceded in death by her son, Brien Flintoft; brothers: Jeffery and Douglas Hills; as well as her grandparents, Homer and Hazel Hills and Henry and Vema Griffes.

In keeping with Sandy’s wishes, cremation has taken place. For those wanting to celebrate the life of Sandy, a memorial gathering will be held at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Sunday, February 2, 2020, from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. Burial will take place at the Indianfields Township Cemetery in Caro at a later date.
