Caroline Dickson of Akron, age 85, passed away on Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at Hills & Dales General Hospital in Cass City. Caroline was born January 24, 1934 at home in Unionville, the daughter of the late Christopher & Amelia (York) Gangler. She was united in marriage with Donald Dickson on June 9, 1951 in Pinnebog and celebrated forty-four years of marriage until his passing in 1995. Caroline served for several years as a librarian for Akron-Fairgrove Schools and later took a position as head librarian for the Fairgrove District Library, retiring in 1995. She centered her life around her family and loved cooking for gatherings with her children and grandchildren. Caroline had a generous spirit, cared for others, and took special care to know where all of her family members were at any given time. She spent over thirty years wintering in Florida where she made many special friends and enjoyed traveling across the United States and even hiked through Germany at eighty years old. She also enjoyed golfing and spent many hours tending to her flower garden.
Left to cherish Caroline’s memory are four children and their spouses, Curt & Holly Dickson of Akron, Holly Russell of Caro, Kipp & Joyce Dickson of Akron, Cole Dickson of Frankenmuth; twelve grandchildren and their spouses, Chris & Kathy Dickson of Akron, Keith & Danielle Dickson of Marquette, Alyssa & Peter Mooney of Lansing, Tricia & Kyle Kausch of Boston, Massachusetts, Eric & Toni Russell of Akron, Mitchell & Sara Russell of Akron, Matthew & Colleen Russell of Akron, Kelly & Anthony Burell of Ypsilanti, Jordan & Allison Dickson of Reese, Andrew Dickson of Akron, Alex Dickson of Frankenmuth, Katherine Dickson of Frankenmuth; eighteen great-grandchildren; three siblings and their spouses, June & Kenton Colling of Millington, Ken & Delores Gangler of Unionville, Alice & Leon Stecker of Unionville; sisters-in-law, Carole Gangler of Unionville, Janet Dickson-Van Tol of Bay City; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Caroline was preceded in death by two brothers, Pat Gangler, Donald Gangler; and two brothers-in-law, Fred Dickson and Ned Dickson. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Hill & Dales Hospital for their care and compassion during Caroline’s stay.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 11, 2019 at the Wisner United Methodist Church officiated by Rev. Evan Inbeom Oh and Caroline’s special niece visiting from Austria, Peggy Freigassner. Private graveside services will be held later in the day. The family will be present to receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to ACW Ambulance Service or the Tuscola County Imagination Library.
