Fonda Lewis Sanborn Bennett, 89, passed away Sunday, September 22, 2019. She was born May 16, 1930 in Unionville, MI to William & Luella Lewis. Fonda worked for many years at the Caro Regional Center in Michigan. After moving to Florida, she was instrumental in helping establish the campgrounds at the American Legion Post 23 in Fort Meade and was the caretaker of the Post for 20 years. She was an active member of the Fort Meade First Church of God, where she was a Sunday School teacher and she also attended the First Church of God in Winter Haven. She worked in the Fort Meade High School lunchroom. She had many talents, she loved to cook, she was an artist, a songwriter and could play the organ by ear. She was preceded in death by two husbands: Donald Sanborn & Euby Vernon Bennett; son, MSG Thomas B. Sanborn, U.S. Army (Ret.); grandson, David Crosby; siblings Floyd Lewis, Elmer Lewis and Geraldine “Gerry” Deese and two sons-in-law. She is survived by four daughters: Marie Pfaff, Greeneville, TN, Jean Madden of St. Petersburg, Kathy Gainer (Kenny) of Mulberry, Shari Reed (Jim) of Winter Haven; sister; Doris Hendrick of Decker, MI; step daughters; Tina St. Pierre (John), Mae Teddar, Ruth Marie Tillson, Peggy Wood; step sons; Bruce Bennett (Lucy), Frank Bennett (Norma); 13 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. Family will receive friends Saturday, September 28, 2019 from 10:00 to 11:00 am at McLean Funeral Home in Fort Meade, FL. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 am Saturday at McLean Funeral Home. Interment will be held at Evergreen cemetery in Fort Meade, FL.
