Richard Lee Hobson of Caro, age 85, passed away on Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at Covenant HealthCare – Cooper in Saginaw. Dick was born December 6, 1933 in Caro, the son of the late Forest & Eleanor (Romain) Hobson. In 1950, at the age of seventeen, he enlisted with the United States Army and was stationed in Greenland and France during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1953 and united in marriage with the former Sharren Duke on July 23, 1955. In his early years, Dick was employed with George Baird in construction before taking a position with General Motors in the Ternstedt Division. Longing for a position outdoors, he later worked in the oil fields in Akron, and finally retired as a forklift driver with General Motors, Saginaw Steering Gear, in 1993. Dick was a member of St. Christopher Catholic Church in Caro where he also served as an usher and was a 3rd Degree Member of the Caro Knights of Columbus Council #3224. He was a life member of the Caro American Legion Post #7 and the Caro VFW Post #4164. Dick loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed Tigers baseball, hunting, fishing, gardening, golfing, bowling, playing cards, and Bingo.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of sixty-four years, Sharren Hobson of Caro; six children and their spouses, Deborah & David Rundel of Caro, Kimberly & Carl McLellan of Pinconning, Brenda & Aaron Larkin of Caro, Shelly & Kris Ball of Caro, Richard II & Jaime Hobson of Kingston, Michael, Sr. & Melissa Hobson of Vassar; seventeen grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; brother, Bruce & Cha Davis of Oklahoma; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by one son, Robert Hobson; grandson, Bradley; siblings, Robert Hobson, Ron Davis, Linda Shrontz, and Gary Davis.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 12, 2019 at St. Christopher Parish, Sacred Heart Church, in Caro with Rev. Jerzy Dobosz officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Almer Township Cemetery in Caro. The family will be present to receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Sunday from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. A Rosary Service, led by the Caro Knights of Columbus, will take place at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association.
