Annie Doreen Heacock of Clinton Township formerly of Kingston, age 90, died following a lengthy illness Monday, June 3, 2019, in her daughter’s home in Clinton Township. She was born January 23, 1929, in Detroit to Herbert and Edith (Yates) Williams.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce Mom’s passing, but count it a blessing that her spirit was ushered unto the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ. Our family has been so blessed and honored by your love, prayers, and concerns. We are grateful for each and every one of you.
Born in the dawn of the Great Depression, Doreen came to know the Lord as her savior as a child attending Sunday school. She experienced God’s true power and faithfulness throughout her life, especially during life’s trials while in her fifties. Her life long love and devotion, as prayers to the Lord helped lead many, including her children and grandchildren, to our Savior, Jesus Christ. We remember many hours of laughter as we sat around the table, putting a puzzle together, discussing life, God’s Word, His goodness and teaching. She had a smile for everyone and would often say, “Isn’t it a beautiful day today?”
Doreen was a member of Deford Community Church for nearly 40 years and served as a Sunday school teacher of all ages, including her beloved senior citizen class. She served as director of Wednesday Children’s Cub Cadets, summer Bible school, church librarian and was a member of the Women’s Missionary Society. After graduating from Lincoln High School in 1947, she worked as a secretary. Doreen started her family in Mt. Clemens and in Warren and became a mother and homemaker. Later in life, she worked as a care giver at The Lighthouse of Caro as a home health care aide. She also worked with Kingston Elementary in its grandparent program. Doreen was a skilled painter, crocheted quality afghans and completed many quilts. As matriarch of the Yates/Williams family, she encouraged attendance to the family reunion picnics, as she placed high importance on family bonds.
Doreen is survived by her children: Delores (Hank) Gehrke of Clinton Township; Pastor Michael (Linda) Heacock of Lexington, South Carolina; Janet (Rodney) Sommerfield of Kingston; Donna (Mike) Brandibur of Benson, Arizona; Gary (Coleen) Heacock of Clinton Township; David (Debbie) Heacock of Charlotte; 23 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; brother, Thomas (Helen) Williams of Attica; sisters-in-law: Dorothy Heacock of St. Clair Shores, Gloria Williams of Sterling Heights; many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by brothers: Burt Williams, Jack Williams; and sister, Edith Humphrey.
