Anthony (Tony) Scigel of Mayville, age 94, passed away Wednesday, October 30, 2018 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Saginaw surrounded by his family.
He was born October 22, 1924 in Detroit to the late Joseph and Stella (Szrukewcz) Szcygiel. Tony married Caroline Cronover on August 27, 1949 at the Methodist Church in Vassar. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWII. Tony was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Mayville American Legion Post #181. He retired from Fisher Body in Flint. Tony loved fishing, hunting and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Caroline; three children: Carolyn (Henry) Wymore of Mayville, Mary (Arland) Draper of Mayville and Michael (Mary) Scigel of Mayville; one brother, Joseph Szcygiel of Caro; four grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; one brother; and one grandson, Jimmie Arnold.
The family will receive visitors from 4:30-7 p.m. Thursday, November 1, 2018 at the Avram Funeral Home, 6028 Lincoln St., Mayville, MI 48744 and from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Friday November 2, 2018 at the church. A Rosary Service will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, November 2, 2018 at 11 a.m. at St Joseph Catholic Church, 315 West Ohmer Road, Mayville, with Father John Ladd officiating. Interment will follow at the Fremont Township Cemetery with full Military Honors being conducted by the American Legion Post #181 and the Mayville/Vassar VFW Post #10884.
