Arlene Margaret Splittgerber Long

Arlene Margaret Splittgerber Long of Clinton Township, age 79, passed away quietly at her home on Wednesday, August 29, 2018.
Born September 21, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Robert Bruce Splittgerber and Leona Wuebben Splittgerber Kolarovic. She was also preceded in death by her granddaughter, Amie Lynn Swinton and sister, Rosemary Foster (Vern).
She is survived by her former husband Jack Leon Long (Geneva) of Saginaw; three sons: Michael Long (Deanna) of St. Louis, Timothy Long (Lisa) of Caro, and Patrick Long (Sheila) of Caro; four daughters: Louann Gavit (Galen) of Unionville, Jackie White (Major) of Flint, Tami Gillingham (Eric) of Brooklyn, and Theresa Wallace (Tom) of White Lake; 17 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters: Karen DeLockroy (Michael) of Fraser, Brenda Splittgerber of Tennessee; and brother, Michael Splittgerber (Martha) of Tennessee, as well as many loved nieces and nephews.
Over the years, she was an active choir member at Peace Lutheran Church (Warren), St. Paul’s Lutheran Church (Caro) and Shalom Lutheran Church (Pinckney).
Arlene graduated from Lincoln High School in Warren, and received her associate degree in business from Delta College. Through the years, she was employed by the U.S. Postal Service, Caro Plastics, Ace Hardware, and various restaurants where she was a respected cook and baker.
She will be remembered for her enthusiasm with Girl Scouting, community theater, singing, gardening, writing, crocheting, working puzzles, crafts, and her love of animals.
A private family gathering will be held at Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home in Chelsea. Arlene’s ashes will be laid to rest in her maternal family burial plot in Hancock.
Memorial contributions in Arlene’s memory may be made to any animal shelter of one’s choice.
