Robert L.”Putt” Putnam of Caro, age 83, passed away on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at Timberline Lodge in Caro. Bob was born November 2, 1934 in Cass City, to the late Harold & Aileene (Mileski) Putnam. He was a 1953 graduate of Cass City High School, and lived most of his life in the Caro area. After high school, Bob worked for Bulen Chevrolet in Cass City. He was the owner of Putt’s Body Shop, which he built in 1960 and worked doing auto body repair until 1986. Bob was a man of many talents and adventures. He had a pilot’s license and enjoyed flying friends and family up to Grand Marais and Mackinac Island. He took pride in restoring numerous wooden boats that were used for his love of fishing and taking boating trips along Michigan’s shoreline and to Canada. Bob spent many summers camping on the Manistee River in Grayling with his children, grandchildren and other friends and family. Bob loved life and spending time with family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He had a love for animals and liked bird watching. Bob enjoyed making people laugh, but was mostly known for his kindness and generosity.
Bob is survived by his daughter, Linda (Dan) Mills of Caro; son, Sam Putnam of Caro; daughter, Robin (Cornelius) Murphy of Dover, Delaware; eight grandchildren, Carrie (Dale) Tabar, Jennifer (Trent) Kelly, Megan (Nate) Belonga, Sarah Putnam (Jeremy Rocheleau), Renea (Tom) Claerhout, Jasmine Murphy, Jade Murphy, and Jeremy Murphy: six great-grandchildren, Mariah, Alexander, Gracie, Ian, Ali, and Colton; four siblings, Eugene Putnam of Marlette, Larry Putnam of Caro, Norma (Richard) Kraus of Columbiaville, and James Putnam of Alaska. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his former spouse, Dorothy A. Putnam; son, Daniel Robert; brother, Richard Putnam; and sister, Doris Jean Michalik.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro officiated by Cornelius Murphy, Bob’s son-in-law. Burial will follow at the Ellington Township Cemetery in Caro. The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 10:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Timberline Lodge Activity Fund, 3771 Colwood Road, Caro, MI 48723.
