Arline Schmandt, 99, of Vassar, died early Wednesday morning, August 23, 2017 at Comfort Care in Bridgeport. She was born December 29, 1917 in Frankenmuth, daughter of the late Otto and Hedwig (Rummel) Nuechterlein. On November 15, 1941 she was married to Arnold H. Schmandt in Frankenmuth. He predeceased her July 2, 1996. Mrs. Schmandt was a homemaker most of her life and was a member of St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Richville and the Mary Martha Guild. She also volunteered at Bethesda in Saginaw. Her greatest enjoyment was gardening.
Surviving is her son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Lynn Schmandt of Vassar; four grandchildren, Maura Leinonen and her husband Jon of Houghton; Sharon Marx, Sherry Fuller and her husband Brice, and Victoria Schmandt, all of Duluth, MN; six great grandchildren, Benjamin, Danelle, Samuel, Miina, Shawn, and Rindy. In addition to her parents and husband, Arline was predeceased by her son, Larry Schmandt, her granddaughter, Sara Schmandt, one brother, George Nuechterlein and two sisters, Lenora Stern and Ottilie Daenzer.
Funeral Services will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, August 28, 2017 from the St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Richville. Rev. Wesley Gillaspie will officiate with graveside Committal Services to follow in the St. Michael’s Cemetery. Arline’s family will receive friends at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home, 9940 Saginaw Street in Reese on Sunday from 3-7 p.m. and at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of the services. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider St. Michael’s Lutheran Church.
