Marlene (Bruder) Latimer

Marlene (Bruder) Latimer of Akron, age 82, of Akron, died Wednesday, June 7, 2017, at Tuscola County Medical Care Community. A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 24, 2017, at Colling Church of the Nazarene, 5061 N Colling Rd., Unionville, Michigan 48767. Pastor Karen Wolfe and Pastor Evan Oh will officiate. Marlene’s family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m.

Marlene was born April 5, 1935, in Chicago to the late Fred and Esther (Pukonen) Bruder. Until the age of 17, Marlene grew up in a Lutheran home ran by a Czechoslovakian community. It was there where she learned about God by attending chapel every day, how to cook, play ball, and swing from the balcony to the floor of the gym. In 1952, She met Al Latimer in a little country church while singing with the choir and three months later, the young couple was united in marriage on December 23, 1952. After Alan had returned home after being discharged from the United States Army, they traveled with the Boudrys to Akron to pick up their belongings and decided to move to Akron to raise their family. After graduating from Saginaw State University, Marlene became a Certified Nursing Assistant and worked for Tuscola County Medical Care Community for 17 years. In her spare time, Marlene enjoyed hosting Tupperware parties all across the state.  Marlene also enjoyed many activities such as cooking for her friends and family, singing duets with her husband, Alan, and telling children’s stories using flannel graph. Marlene loved her family dearly and especially enjoyed spending time with her children while picking up eggs.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Alan Latimer; children: Larry and wife, Michele Latimer, Dean and wife, Colleen Latimer, Lee Vernon Latimer and partner, JoAnn, Wendy Sue and husband, Patrick Kraynak, Cherie Elizabeth Latimer, and Jon Ross Latimer; one sister, Roslin Atkinson; brother, Fredrick Lawrence Bruder; brother, Harry Brown; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Sarah Jane and Elizabeth Sue; and brother, Howard Bruder.
