Vandecar profiled on Hard Time

LAS VEGAS — The woman who murdered former Caro resident Roy Schutzler recently was profiled on the National Geographic Channel’s prison documentary show Hard Time.

Producers of the show followed Rosemary Vandecar, 54, while she was lodged at Clark County Detention Center in Las Vegas awaiting sentencing for the Feb. 8, 2010 murder of 69-year-old Schutzler. Vandecar was found guilty of second-degree murder and sentenced Aug. 9 to life in prison with the possibiltiy of parole plus a second consecutive term of 20 years in prison for Nevada’s victim over 60 age enhancement.

The episode of Hard Time is subtitled Jail Mom, and details how Vandecar relates to younger inmates. Stories about Schutzler’s murder written by former Advertiser staff writer Judy Siefert are featured in the show.

The episode debuted Sept. 4 on the National Geographic Channel, and is scheduled to air again Monday at 10 p.m.
