Sunday blaze destroys home, cause unknown

VASSAR TOWNSHIP – Firefighters from several area departments assisted with a blaze that ripped through a Vassar area home on Sunday.
The home, owned by the Payea family, located at 3995 Waltan Road ignited in flames at approximately 8 p.m. Sunday, said Vassar’s Assistant Fire Chief Ted Gamet. The fire was reported to the department at 8:18 p.m. by individuals passing by the area.
No one was home at the time of the fire and the house was completely engulfed before firefighters arrived at the scene, Gamet explained.
Gamet said the home was a complete loss and added that the property was insured.
No injuries were sustained during the fire and the cause is unknown at this time.
The Vassar Fire Department spent approximately five hours at the scene and was assisted by the Millington-Arbela Fire Department, Richville Fire Department and Mayville Fire Department.
