Football players to get one last game

By Jon Sicotte
Posted March 27, 2008

Full story to run in Saturday's Advertiser.

The best senior football players in the Thumb will suit up one last time in their school’s colors on July 5 in the first-ever Thumb Football All-Star game at Cass City High School.

Twenty five area schools will square off as it will be the Northwest All-Stars versus the Southeast All-Stars.

The schools will be mainly Tuscola, Huron and Sanilac County schools, but any team in a conference with these counties as rivals, such as Bay City All Saints, Dryden and Memphis, will also be included.

Approximately 33-35 players will be on each team with at least one player from each school.

Each player will play at least a half of football.

Along with one player from each school, the rest of the roster will be filled out by a committee that leans on nominations from area coaches and the Thumb Sportswriters Association.

Graduating seniors from the Class of 2008 will only be able to play due to rules set by the Michigan High School Athletic Association.

The game will be in conjunction with the Cass City Fourth of July celebrations.

Caro High School will “float” between both squads year to year, but here is the breakdown of teams for the Thumb Football All-Star Game.

Northwest All-Stars Akron-Fairgrove Bad Axe BCAS Cass City Kingston Laker Millington North Huron Owen-Gage Reese USA Vassar

Southeast All-Stars Brown City CPS Cros-Lex Deckerville Dryden Harbor Beach Marlette Mayville Memphis Peck Sandusky Ubly
