U.P. travels

I don't get "home" often.

Home, being Marquette, Mich.

But when a student from Mayville told me he was going to NMU in the fall. I told him I would be glad to take him up and give him, a tour. So we did.

Saturday night, we went to a Marquette Rangers hockey game between the hosts and the Traverse City North Stars.

Lo and behold, a Thumb sports story was there for me to cover.

Former Caro running back and current high school senior Kellen Michalak, the little bro of CMU Wrestling's Wynn Michalak, played for the TC Stars. He got in a good scrap at center ice (I call it a draw) with a guy from Marquette and had three shots on goal.

I talked with Kellen after the game. About his family, his career in hockey (TC is a Tier II Jr. A team, similar, but not as advanced as the Saginaw Spirit) and getting in the fight.

Read about it in Weds. Advertiser.

I also got a chance to meet with a class of students from Northern and talk about the convergence of media in newspapers, internet, TV and radio. So to those from Dr. Brady's class that checked this out...Hello!

Also, a look into how we feed the deer in the backyard...by the shovel.
