ALVIN A. WOODS formerly of Marlette Our beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully on Friday, Oct. 30, 2009 at Tuscola Medical Care Facility in Caro with his family by his side, at the age of 85. Alvin was born Nov. 7, 1923 in Marlette to the late Arthur and Mabel (Kelly) Woods. He was a graduate of Marlette High School and married his high school sweetheart, Mary Lue (Volz) Woods, on April 7, 1942. In addition to farming, Alvin was employed for several years in Marlette at Guerdon Industries and Active Homes where he retired as production manager. He was a member of Marlette and Caro Community of Christ congregations. He enjoyed spending time at the cottage in West Branch, winters in New Port Richey, FL, hunting, fishing, camping, making woodworking treasures for his family, playing euchre and watching Detroit and MSU sports teams. He especially loved attending his grandchildren’s activities and spending time with family and friends. Alvin is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mary Lue; daughters, Bonnie Gilbert of Mason and Cindy (Dave) Wheeler of Caro; son, Bob (Linda) Woods of Midland; grandchildren, Staci Nazareth, Aaron (Kris) Woods, Nicole (Matt) Henley, Chad (Betsy) Gilbert, Cory Gilbert, Brandon Wheeler, Amanda Wheeler and five great-grandchildren, Matthew, Katelyn, Emilee, Sarah and Joe. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Neil and Leonard Woods; sister, Clara Appel and son-in-law, Richard Gilbert. Funeral service was held on Monday, Nov. 2 at 11:30 a.m. at Marsh Funeral Home in Marlette with Elder Jerry Bernhardt officiating from Caro Community of Christ Church. Cremation followed at Sunset Valley Crematory of Bay City, with burial in Marlette Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Americans Hospice Care Inc., Caro Community of Christ Church and Marlette Community of Christ Church.
