Michael Alessi, Ypsilanti Township

1919 - 2008

Passed away suddenly Thursday, June 26, 2008 at Hills and Dales Hospital in Cass City, at the age of 89. He was born April 22, 1919 in Barnesboro, PA, the son of William and Theresa (Spangler) Alessi.

On March 26, 1949, he married Iva Imogene Russell in Cherry Tree, PA. She preceded him in death Nov. 8, 1989.

Michael retired from General Motors, Willow Run plant in 1983. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, was a member of American Legion Post #0508 in Barnesboro for 64 years and was a member of UAW Local #1776 retiree chapter.

Survivors include one daughter, Lynn (Mike Baker) Alessi of Caro; step-son, Richard (Joan) Jenkins of Ypsilanti; five grandchildren, Aaron, Shannon, Jennifer, Rick and Kirk; 10 great-grandchildren, Cassandra, Greg, Adriana, Nicole, Steven, Derrick, Travis, Vincent, Claudia and Shania; seven great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Lou Stein of Pennsylvania and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; one sister and five brothers.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 2 at Stark Funeral Service Moore Memorial Chapel in Ypsilanti, with Fr. James Conlon officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery.
