CARO — Interviews for the final five candidates who are vying for the position of Caro Chief of Police will be held on Saturday, Sept. 19. The interviews will be conducted by an advisory panel of nine people including citizens at large from the community, Village Manager Don Beavers and three council members.
A consultant with police administration background will assist in facilitating the interviews. After the interviews, the panel will make recommendations to Beavers of the top choices. Beavers will then negotiate with the successful candidate an employee economic package and employment agreement that will be submitted to the village council for final action.
The individuals to be interviewed include: 8 a.m., Brian V. Newcomb of Caro, who is presently with the Michigan State Police; at 9:15 a.m., Dale Stevenson of Caro, presently Sergeant with the Caro Police Department; at 10:30 a.m. David G. Thompson of Midland, MI, recently with the City of Ithaca and previously with the Midland Police Department; at 1:15 p.m., John R. Riley of Goodells, who is presently with the Center Line Public Safety Department; and at 2:30 p.m., Terry Seames of Grass Lake Michigan recently retired from the University of Michigan Police Department.
The interviews on the 19th are open to the public and will be held at the Caro Municipal Building, 317 S. State in Caro.
Beavers said the council will likely take action on hiring the new chief at the beginning of October.
The new chief will replace Benson Page, who recently retired. Sgt. Dale Stevenson is currently serving as the commanding officer for the Caro Police Department.
