Politicians get enough perks

November 4, 2009 - 10:17 a.m. EST

After talking with one of our Michigan senators the other day in Vassar, I am convinced that we need part-time lawmakers. We should reduce their salaries by 50 percent. They now make $97,000 plus perks.

Make them take the same medical insurance they want us to have. We should no longer pay a lifetime pension after only four years of service. Give them a $50,000 pension after they earn it. Say 30 years of public service, like the rest of us.

We also need term limits on these people. Politics was never intended to be a career. Many of today’s politicians have found a new way to cash in on their positions, resulting in great wealth for themselves.

The Internal Revenue Service should audit every politician in Washington and in Lansing. I am sure that they started out being honest, let’s keep them that way. I am not a Republican, I am not a Democrat, I am an American.

God once blessed this country, and He can do it again. But, we all must put Jesus first.

I think the biggest problem with politicians in Congress is the fact that they have the power to dictate their salaries. Taking that power away is s good start to getting them to remember just who works for who.
