INDIANFIELDS TOWNSHIP — Two people were sent to St. Mary’s of Michigan Hospital in Saginaw by Flightcare after their SUV was crushed between two semi-trucks Tuesday morning.
James and Peggy Walleman, both 65, of Vassar were in their Ford Escape, headed eastbound on M-46 west of Chambers Road, when a semi hit them from behind, pushing their SUV into another semi truck.
The semi that struck the Wallemans’ vehicle from behind was driven by Benjiman R. Eddy of Alma, West Virginia. The Wallemans’ vehicle then struck the eastbound semi truck that was traveling just ahead of them, driven by Kenneth L. McCready II of West Monroe, Louisiana.
McCready was injured in the crash and transported to St. Mary’s for treatment by ambulance.
Michigan State Police Troopers are still investigating the cause of the crash. At this time, it is undetermined whether alcohol or drugs were a factor.
Troopers from Caro and Lapeer were assisted by the Tuscola County Sheriff’s Office, Watertown Township Police Department, Caro Ambulance, Mayville MMR and the Tuscola County Road Commission. The Caro Fire Department worked to free the Walleman’s from the wreckage.
