Two men seriously injured in crash

KINGSTON TOWNSHIP — A three-vehicle crash Friday afternoon has left two men in serious condition.

The crash occurred at 3:20 p.m. on Kingston Road south of Chapin Road when a northbound pick-up truck, driven by Ricky Howey, 37, of Gagetown crossed into the southbound lane, directly into the path of two southbound vehicles.

A southbound car, driven by Laura Cotton, 38, of Deford swerved to miss the pick-up and went off the roadway into the ditch, while a pick-up truck, driven by Gregory Woodruff, 35, of Cass City immediately behind Cotton’s vehicle, was unable to avoid the collision.

The drivers of both pick-ups sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash. Howey was transported by LifeNet to Covenant Hospital and is now in serious condition at Hurley Medical Center in Flint, while Woodruff was transported by FlightCare to St. Mary’s of Michigan in Saginaw and is now at the University of Michigan Health System in Ann Arbor.

Alcohol was not involved in the crash and it remains under investigation by Tuscola County Sheriff’s deputy Dale Tompkins, deputy Steve Roland and accident reconstructionist, Sgt. Michael Mattlin.

The Tuscola County Sheriff’s Department was assisted on the scene by Kingston, Caro and Cass City Fire Departments, as well as MMR, Marlette ambulance, the Michigan State Police, Tuscola County Road Commission, Kraft Towing, Kwik Start Towing and Mills Towing.
