MAYVILLE/FREMONT TWP. – Several minors are being investigated by the Tuscola County Sheriff’s Department for allegedly spray painting graffiti on homes, vehicles, garages and yard equipment near the Cat Lake area north of Mayville.
Undersheriff Glen Skrent said because the investigation is ongoing, no information can be released at this time. “But a juvenile is suspected, we have the spray cans used, and Sgt. Michael Mattlin is heading the investigation,” Skrent said.
Skrent said no gang or hate signs were used. “(But) a lot of profanity; things like ‘support our troops’, ‘make love not war’, it was these types of slogans that were sprayed on,” he added.
Homes on one side of the lake seemed to be targeted, said one homeowner who did not want to be identified. Many of the homes on the lake are seasonal, and homeowners whose property was damaged are being contacted.
Cat Lake is south of M-46 and north of Blackmore Road, east of M-24.
Anyone with information or questions is urged to contact the sheriff’s department by calling (989) 673-8161.
