AKRON — An accident early Monday morning in Akron Township remains under investigation by the Tuscola County Sheriff’s Department.

At about 1:04 a.m., deputies were dispatched to a single-vehicle accident at Tobias and Randall roads north of the village of Akron in Akron Township.

According to information from the police report released by Tuscola County Undersheriff Glen Skrent, Kyle Tumblin, 20, of Fairgrove was traveling southbound on Tobias Road.

“He lost control on the gravel road and the car came to rest on the passenger side,” said Skrent. “Because of that, the passenger was partly ejected and pinned under the car.”

The passenger in the vehicle was Gregory Ewald, 21 of Fairgrove who was pinned under the vehicle when it crashed into the ditch.

“The driver was wearing a seat belt, but the passenger wasn’t,” said Skrent. “That’s why he was partly ejected.”

Ewald was taken to Hurley Hospital by Life Net helicopter.

“He is listed in stable condition,” according to Skrent’s press release.

The accident is being investigated by Sgt. Ted Hull and Deputy Josh Herman.

Officers were assisted at the scene by Michigan State Police.
