GAGETOWN — Investigation continues into the whereabouts of a supposed infant that was buried in a wooded area near Gagetown in June 2006.
On Friday, Tuscola County Prosecutor Mark Reene said investigators are continuing to speak to witnesses in the case.
“We’re still making progress, but that’s about all I can say at this juncture,” he said.
Last week, authorities issued a request for help in the investigation, asking for anyone to come forward if they knew where Cory D. Fritz was on June 19-20 of this year.
During court proceedings, there was some concern that Fritz would try to locate the remains before authorities could do so.
Fritz, 26, of Sebewaing allegedly fathered the infant. He now faces 20 counts of third degree criminal sexual conduct - charges that stem from his relationship with the child’s mother, who was only 15 when the baby was born, authorities said.
Fritz was arrested June 23 at the McDonald's restaurant in Cass City after leaving his nearby place of employment.
Reene could not give specifics as to why authorities are seeking Fritz's whereabouts on June 19-20.
"Only that we think it may be relevant for the investigation," he said.
Anyone with information on Fritz's whereabouts June 19-20 or additional information regarding this case is asked to contact Detective Sgt. Mark Krebs at either (989) 673-2156 or (989) 269-6441. Krebs, Detective Sgt. Brian Ferguson and Detective Trooper Robert Dunham, all of the Michigan State Police, are the lead investigators on this case.
Fritz has not been charged with any crimes relating to the supposed infant. He is no longer lodged at the Tuscola County Jail after posting bond last Wednesday.
A term of Fritz’s bond/pretrial release order precludes him from entering into the Village of Gagetown and/or Elmwood Township.
Fritz was scheduled for a preliminary exam in Tuscola County District Court Monday; however, that has been rescheduled for July 20.

I am not glad to see that he is out, I will be glad to see all details of this case out in the open though. He didn't do this alone, so he should not be punished alone. I am still waiting to here "her" name and her mothers name be slaughtered like Cory was. I think about this case on a daily basis whenever I look at my daughter. It makes me so sad to think that someone could do this to a baby, and I really hope that I have taught my daughter to make better decisions then the ones made here.
I just cannot wait until this case is done and over with, and all involved get what they have coming to them.
