Authorities seeking help in Fritz investigation

GAGETOWN — Authorities are asking where Cory Fritz was June 19-20.

Fritz, 26, of Sebewaing, faces 20 counts of third degree criminal sexual conduct. He was arrested June 23 at the Cass City McDonald's restaurant after leaving his nearby place of employment.

During two recent court appearances, mention of a supposed baby that was born to Fritz and the then 15-year-old victim in June 2006 has raised many questions. That baby was allegedly buried in a wooded area near Gagetown, according to information from the victim that was discussed at Fritz's pre-preliminary hearing.

"Law enforcement officials have been actively searching for the remains of an infant child believed to have been born in June 2006. At the present time the search has been limited to the Gagetown area," stated a press release from Mark Reene, Tuscola County Prosecutor.

Reene stated at Fritz's pre-preliminary hearing on Monday, that a witness made statements about Fritz seeking to find the remains and possibly dispose of them before authorities could locate them.

Reene could not give specifics as to why authorities are seeking Fritz's whereabouts on June 19-20.

"Only that we think it may be relevant for the investigation," he said Thursday evening.

Fritz has not been charged with any crimes relating to the supposed infant. He is no longer lodged at the Tuscola County Jail after posting bond Wednesday.

"Based upon additional circumstances related to this case and a continuing investigation a term of the defendant’s bond/pretrial release order precludes him from entering into the Village of Gagetown and/or Elmwood Township both of which are located in Tuscola County," stated Reene's press release.

Fritz was scheduled for a preliminary exam in Tuscola County District Court Monday; however that has been rescheduled for July 20 in order to provide both the prosecution and defense time to gather more information, Reene said.

The victim in this case was a 10th grade student at Owendale-Gagetown High School, where Fritz previously coached varsity softball. The sexual relationship between the two allegedly occurred between October 2005 and March 2006 in the Village of Gagetown.

Defense attorney Kevin Rieman is representing Fritz in this case. He has stated that the alleged sexual contact between the Fritz and the victim did not occur when Fritz was coaching the teen.

Anyone with information on Fritz's whereabouts June 19-20 or additional information regarding this case is asked to contact Detective Sgt. Mark Krebs at either (989) 673-2156 or (989) 269-6441. Krebs, Detective Sgt. Brian Ferguson and Detective Trooper Robert Dunham all of the Michigan State Police are the lead investigators on this case.

Maybe the Prosecutor should start to look more closely at the so-called victim in this case, her family and friends. There are a lot of people that are defending these people on the boards on this site, using all sorts of excuses for her actions. A lot of people seemed to know what was going on, and they all covered it up, right along with Fritz, this girl and her family. Why aren't they being charged too?

So they need to know where Cory was on June 19-20? What about this girl and her family? Where were they? Why aren't they being more closely examined? They knew about this and played a part in it too! When will we see their arrests on the front page?

The only victim in this case is the dead baby, and all of these people admitted that there was a child and that it was disposed by burying it in a wooded area. Why are any of them free when there was an admission and information was freely given to the police? Age doesn't absolve a 15 year-old for participating in the death and disposal of her child, and stupidity doesn't absolve her parents, either.

Well, about time something is said that Cory was not an active coach for girls' softball when the supposedly allegation took place. The big headlines about being Softball Coach should not have even been a headline since he was only the softball coach the spring of 2005. And all this information about a baby? They admit there was a baby--the supposed "victim" apparently gave birth. Was it in a hospital? If so, I'm sure there should be records. Was it born at her home? If so, I'm sure she should know if it was a stillborn or born alive. And I'm sure she knows where it went, right along with her mother. Why aren't they arrested and questioned and their names in headlines? If it is true that Cory was there and called 9-1-1, aren't there records about that? Come on, what's taking the authorities so long with this case??

Well, good luck finding something that is smaller than most raccoons here in Michigan. I seriously doubt that the information given to the authorities about the location of the dead child are correct. More than likely, the statements gained from those involved are half-truths or lies. I wounldn't doubt that there is a handful of people that know the exact location. But that's just pure speculation. I really don't see them taking the time to go into the woods with a dead child and a shovel, then taking the time to bury it. I would hope the authorities would turn up the heat on the whole group involved and get some real answers. I guess that's probably asking too much.

I cant believe all that is being said. I have known Cory for many years and I can not imagine him doing that to a child. Even if the girl was that young. Alot of looking at this girl needs to be done. You know medical exams could tell if she has had a child. I am supporting Cory all the way.

I am a 60 yr. old mom of 3 and Cory better not go down alone for this. V and V's mom, sister and grandmother all better go along for the ride.
The DNA taken will hopefully show how the baby was born.
and yes, I feel the Bridgeport Crime lab already has all they need in this case.
I also resent how people are running Gagetown down, we are a very nice community----not dumb, uneducated trash, these families are good families who have gotten in a big mess.

And I agree with inquestition, this people should have had their facts straight. Cory is ever on www.badbadteacher.com, which is really stupid because he was not a teacher or coach at the time! All of the people who put that in the news should correct it!

I understand that you want to see all parties go down for their part....but supporting Cory? I don't know if I would go that far. He played a big part in this too, he was the adult in the situation, if he left when she said she wanted to "get rid of it", why didn't he take the baby himself and go directly to an ER somewhere and save the baby? Maybe you guys know more about it then I do, I am not making accusations, just asking questions that I don't understand. Ok, so maybe he freaked out, but I still think he was the adult (obviously "her" mother wasn't), he should have done something to attempt to save that baby's life. Not saying that she isn't to blame as well because she is...but I want to understand why you guys are defending Cory....just wondering that's all.

Why does the blame always come back on the mother? No one knows her part, or anyones part in this, so it does not make sense to point fingers like that. I've only met the mother a few times, but she seems like a very nice woman. Yes she lets her underage children drink, which I don't agree with, but that's her choice. I know my kids drink behind my back, so maybe she just wants them not to have to lie to her. I don't know. I just don't think that anyone can say that she is in the wrong when no one even knows what happened yet.

og32, I have met the mother more than a couple of times, trust me, she played a part in it. She knew what was going on, she knew about the baby...then poof! the baby is gone...seriously, how can she not be partially to blame. You mean to tell me that if your teenage daughter left the house pregnant and came home not pregnant you wouldn't find out where the baby was? I would...sorry but I would not have let my daughter out of my sight until my questions were answered, (oh wait, I wouldn't allow my daughter to sleep with a 22 year old either) but she already knew and still did nothing for how many years? Her own grandchild....seriously. I hope they are all punished for their part in this sick and twisted incident.

Why support Cory---Well the Cory I know chose not to take a job in Midland with the Loons so he could be there for his "Mother" who has cancer. He contributes to society by working, he is polite and caring.
Yes he has made mistakes, one for falling in love with a 14 yr old acting like 21.
He should not be burned at the stake before the facts are all in, and he should not go down alone.
All the families involved are contributing to society by working they are not on welfare milking us who work.
Lets give them all a break.

So "thataboy Cory" for staying by your moms side during her illness (I sincerely hope all is well with her now) but he did break the law on more than one occassion and should now pay the piper, along with "her" and her mother. And Cory, good for you working like the rest of us, however.....he is still included in wrong doing with regards to this child.

aogmom, Would you just turn the other cheek if your child at the age of 15 gave birth to your grandchild and it just disappeared?? My children tell me most everything in their lives. I let them know (even as adults) if they are heading down the wrong path. The words "If there was a child" should NEVER come up being all involved state that indeed there was a child born. I am praying the whereabouts of the baby will be disclosed soon.

But some parents don't think that way. It is very sad and someone better come forward. I like you, mine tell me everything---sometimes more than I need to hear.

No Cory was not Coach in spring of 06 because he was let go! I wonder why? The dates don't jive. My daughter went to her own prom in 05 and the Vic' was invited to be on the greeting committy and she had a baby bump then.
As for supporting Cory HELL no! I've known him since he was in T-ball and yes he was polite and kind, but he also knew how to work it to his advantage, He even came to my house and asked me to buy beer for him oh hell no. I'm glad he grew up and was able to help out his parents like they helped him ie: 2 OUI's, driving without a license and stealing from family members Etc,Etc. good for him BUT, The crime in still in statue. I'm sick of hearing "that it was consentsual and they were in love" " maybe she was rape or he sexually abused her in to doing things she didn't know she was doing" Bullsh*t you can't dismiss the crime. It is illeagl to have sex with an underage person. He should of thought with the head on his shoulders not the one in his pants. I know we have all made mistakes in our life and I pray that none of you have ever commited a crime this HANIS so lets quit calling it a mistake!
For the Vic' same as above, you can't me that a person whom is legal to drive at the age of 15 (with a parent) can't understand what's going on with her body and what is right and wrong with hiding the birth of this child. Does anybody know that if a fetus is in 4 months gesational age and is "born" (miscarried) and sex can be determind that is HAS to be named and has to involve athuorites and be burried properly! That is the law!!!! I don't care if the child was stillborn or not it is still a crime what they did whom ever is involved.
And as for the Mother, I've never dreamed that anything like this would take part in her home, underage drinking yes(which I don't agree with) but this! and to the person who said maybe she let them drink so the kids wouldn't lie to her, HA! If the Mother say's (in the future) that she didn't know, then guess what, they lie! Come on, She knew and to let it go this long covering up the birth and the burial of this NAMELESS child, that is just cold and wrong! And don't worry the paper stated that they(the police) are working another case that is also related to this one. That tells me that a few people are still in Hot water over this, so don't worry about the Mother and the Vic',their not off the hook yet! SO lets stay tunned its going to take awhile for all this to get sorted and come out! And to the person whom opened this can of worms, hooray for you.
As I understand the crime lab was in Gagetown in 2 different localtions and were unable to find the baby! Someone also blogged that a physical exam can determine if the Vic' has given birth, yes that true and we won't hear about that for awhile as well as her name. Sue

I don't believe your dates are correct. The victim was only a freshman during the 2005 prom period and sophomores are the ones who serve on the greeting committee. She didn't begin to show your 'so-called' baby bump until like Feb./Mar. of 2006.

It comes down to he was the adult in the situation and she was a little girl. That doesn't make what she did right by any means but he was tha adult! and should have stepped up and been one. He should have known better not to be with a little girl, and he should have known better to properly take care of the pregnancy. A 14 year old girl does not know how to handle a pregnancy and probably just wanted to not make Cory mad so just did what he said. I've heard around town, just heard, not saying this is truth, that a few people have said they saw Cory punching the girl in the stomach and it was his idea to get rid of it. Again, I'm not saying she's totally innocent but think back to being 14 years old and how dumb and immature you are. He was a man, who knew better, and did a very wrong thing.

I believe if you are talking on this website and displaying your own opinions you should think about what people you are hurting and display your own name. These people do have lives and it is for the law to decide what is “right or wrong” not US. We should stop and take a look at ourselves, when we are thinking about writing another comment. Please take the time and really take a look at the evidence at hand, and the people involved. I mean would you like it if you were in the papers just because your grass isn’t mowed this week?!? Or how embarrassed would you feel if you walked into the store and heard people talking a bout you? Just remember we are all people and everyone has a life. If you could kindly let these people live it in peace then you would be doing not only yourself a favor, but others as well.
