TUSCOLA COUNTY — There will be plenty of action during the May elections with five school districts having contested board of education races.
School districts with contested races are Caro, Millington, Reese, Unionville-Sebewaing and Frankenmuth.
In the Akron-Fairgrove School District, incumbent Steven Repkie and newcomer Calvin Kosik filed for the two, four-year board seats.
Karen Adams is not seeking re-election.
In the Caro Community School District, there are four board seats expiring.
Incumbent Matthew Hill is being challenged by newcomers William Thayer and Elizabeth Cockerill for the one, four-year board of education seat.
Incumbents Henry Knier, Jr. and Wendy Jacot filed for the one, two-year seat.
Incumbent Mark Noxon is challenged by newcomers John Forshee and Dean Tomlinson for the two, one-year seats.
In the Cass City School District, for the two, four-year board of education seats newcomers Sloane Stimpfel, Deborah Babich and David Osentoski filed.
Michelle Biddinger and Danny Haag are seeking re-election.
In the Kingston School District, for the two, four-year board of education seats incumbent David Kolacz and newcomer James Jackson filed.
Seth Geister is not seeking re-election.
In the Mayville School District, for the two, four-year board of education seats newcomers Mark Hanson and Michelle Martell-DeBeau filed.
Karen Budreau and Deb Hunkins are not seeking re-election.
In the Millington School District, for the two, four-year board of education seats incumbents Shelia Hebner and Randy DePottey are being challenged by newcomers Thomas McDonald, Philip Braidwood and Cameron Miller.
Dean Hennessy filed for the two-year seat.
In the Reese School District, for the two, four-year board of education seats incumbents Janis Squanda and Carol Schluckbier are being challenged by newcomer Chris Conachan.
In the Unionville-Sebewaing Area School District, there are four board of education seats expiring. But, because the district wants to change to having school elections during odd- numbered years, the terms of the expiring seats are staggered to do that.
Incumbents Donna Sting and Jonathan Link filed for the two, four-year seats.
Incumbent Steve Bohn is being challenged by newcomer Michelle Currey for the one, two-year seat.
Incumbent George Eurich filed for the six-year seat.
In the Vassar School District, for the two, four-year seats incumbents Roger Bacon, Sr. and Mike Kennard filed.
The following is information for other school districts in the Tuscola County Advertiser’s coverage area.
In the Frankenmuth School District, for the two, four-year board of education seats incumbents Lyle Davis, Jr. and Daniel Wortman are being challenged by newcomers Jeffry Staple, Bob Loftus and John Shelton.
In the Marlette School District, for the two, four-year board of education seats incumbents Julie Quade and Sarah Kady filed.
In the Owendale-Gagetown School District, for the two, four-year board of education seats incumbents Terry Muntz and Loretta Schmidt filed.
According to Tuscola County Clerk Margie White-Cormier, school elections will be held Tuesday, May 5.
