CASS CITY — After carjacking a police patrol vehicle more than a year ago, a 31-year-old Cass City man now faces a maximum of 30 years.

Brian Joseph Woodruff was sentenced to 15 - 30 years for carjacking, 15 - 30 years for police officer - fleeing, third degree and 10 - 15 years for assaulting/resisting/obstructing a police officer causing injury.

“We won’t be seeing Mr. Woodruff for a long time,” said Tuscola County Prose-cutor Mark Reene. “It will be 15 years before he even becomes eligible for parole.”

Woodruff will be serving his sentences consecutively, along with five other files he was on parole for when this latest incident took place.

“They are a variety of home invasion files,” Reene said. “He has received no credit to his sentences because of this.”

Reene said the reason for the year delay to this latest round of counts is due to an examination of Woodruff at the forensic center.

On Dec. 20, 2007, law enforcement from the Cass City Police Department and the Tuscola County Sheriff’s Department were attempting to execute an arrest warrant for Woodruff when he fled from a residence on foot.

He was later contacted by an officer of the Cass City Police Department at a different location where an altercation occurred which led to Woodruff carjacking a patrol vehicle and fleeing and eluding.

Woodruff was subsequently tracked down and apprehended by the Caro Police Department, Cass City Police Department and Michigan State Police at the corner of Jacob Road and Elmwood Road in Caro.
