FREMONT TOWNSHIP ‹ A local man is still in a Saginaw-area hospital following an early Monday morning vehicle crash.
Michael D. Pittman, 41, of Mayville was driving eastbound on M-46 shortly before 5 a.m. when his vehicle left the roadway several times, according to Jim Jashinske, Tuscola County Undersheriff.
“He went off the road again and hit a curb and went airborne before landing on the south side of the road,” said Jashinske.
Pittman’s vehicle came to rest facing toward the west. Neighboring residents along M-46 discovered the crashed vehicle in the ditch, located just west of Bruisee Road, and called 9-1-1.
A local fire department was called in to extricate Pittman from his vehicle with the jaws of life. St. Mary’s of Saginaw Flightcare was also called to transport Pittman for serious head injuries sustained in the crash.
Jashinske said the accident is still being looked into. However, authorities believe that a “medical condition,” may have caused Pittman to repeatedly drive off the roadway, resulting in the crash.
Prior to the point of the crash, Pittman reportedly struck several mailboxes with his vehicle along the roadway.
Jashinske said investigators have attempted to contact Pittman. However, he was being sedated due to his injuries at that time.
