FAIRGROVE ‹ A 21-year-old Frankenmuth woman was killed Sunday morning in a traffic accident on her way to work.
Malissa Mercer, an EMT for Mobile Medical Response, had been traveling north on Hinson Road when she ran the stop sign at Gilford Road and was struck in the driver’s door by a vehicle traveling east on Gilford driven by 21-year-old Misty Marie McMann of Bay City.
Both vehicles came to rest in the ditch on the northeast corner of the intersection.
Mercer had been on her way to work for Mobile Medical Response. She had been recently transferred to the Tuscola County area.
“Our sympathies go out to her family and to all of the crew members who worked so closely with her,” said Lynn Schutter of Mobile Medical Response. “She will be truly missed.
“It is times like this that help us reflect on why we are involved in helping other people.”
McMann was transported to Bay Medical Center by MMR. Her injuries were not believed to be serious.
Both drivers were wearing safety belts and airbags were deployed in both vehicles. Both vehicles were total losses.
Alcohol was not believed to be a factor in the crash.
State Police were assisted at the scene by the Tuscola County Sheriff’s Department, Fairgrove Fire Department, MMR and Kwik Start Towing.
