PEACH SPRINGS, ARIZONA — Victims of a murder - suicide found on Arizona’s Route 66 have been traced back to the Thumb.

Mohave County Sheriff’s Deputies have identified the victims of the July 2 shooting as 56-year-old John A. Howell, and 60-year-old Anna Bell (Bognar) Howell, along with their adopted son, Richard L. Howell, 20, who graduated in 2006 from the Elkton - Pigeon - Bay Port Laker High School.

The couple had lived in Tuscola and in Huron county until about two years ago when he retired from the Bay City Post Office.

According to police records, the shooting happened about 5:18 p.m. about 40 miles northeast of Kingman when the family was traveling eastbound on Route 66.

Mohave Sheriff Chief Deputy Jim McCabe said their adoptive son, Richard Howell, shot both Anna and John with a 9 mm handgun before taking his own life.
