FRANKENMUTH -- The Oxford County, Ont. Pirates captured the North American Central Regional title Sunday afternoon at Heritage Park with a 9-2 win over Newmarket, Ont. in the International Softball Congress U19 tournament.
Oxford finished 4-0 on the weekend with wins over Stevens, Pa. (6-2), Oshawa (4-2), and Glencoe, Ont. (10-3).
Local entries Munger Firemen and Frankenmuth Driving School were eliminated from contention Saturday.
Munger went 0-3 with losses to Glencoe (5-4, eight innings), the Kitchener/Waterloo, Ontario Twins (9-6) and Stevens, Pa. (12-0).
Frankenmuth had the same fate, with losses to Newmarket (3-2), Cobourg, Ont. (9-5) and 9-5 in eight innings to the Ontario Kolts.
Oxford County earns a berth in the Under 19 tournament to be held in conjunction with the ISC and ISC II Tournament of Champions in Kimberly, WI, this August.
