MAYVILLE — The second annual Mayville Alumni Baseball games were held Saturday, June 21 at Mayville High School.
Approximatley 45 players were divided into four teams and each team played two games.
“The competitive spirit and pride surfaced in each team,” former Mayville coach Curt Henderson said, “but in the end the score did not matter as everyone was thrilled to get together with old friends and relive fun times.”
Nine players with All-State recognition returned to the field, but center stage went to 1938 graduate Erwin Craig.
Craig threw out a ceremonial first-pitch and then played four innings at seconnd base.
Former All-State pitcher Scott Frenzel could not throw his fastball by Craig as he stepped to the plate and beat out an infield single.
“It was a great day for baseball in Mayville and the players are already talking about getting ready for next year,” Henderson said. “A big thank you goes to organizers Chris Yens, Russ Coutcher and Eric Frenzel.”
