Fowler Center hosts 13th annual Ice Fishing Contest

February 6, 2008 - 12:00 a.m. EST

The Fowler Center will be hosting its 13th annual Ice Fishing Contest Saturday.

The contest will take place on Harmon Lake in Mayville, and cash prizes will be given away throughout the day, as well as door prizes.

It’s a lot of fun and it’s for a very good cause.

There are two sessions during the day for fishermen, one from 7:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. and the other from 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. Deb and Cindy’s Chicken Dinner will be served from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. for $6, and snacks and hot drinks will be available throughout the day.

An entry is a $15 donation for participants over 16 and a $5 donation for kids 6-16 years old. All fishermen must hold a valid Michigan fishing license.

The grand prize of $7,000, which has yet to be given away, will be awarded to the person who catches the tagged pike during the event.

Entrants will also earn $100 for every tagged pike caught and a $500 prize for the largest pike caught.

There will also be a ice shanty from the Shappell Corporation raffled off during the day.

The proceeds from the contest go directly to support camping opportunities for children, teens and adults with disabilities at the Fowler Center.

The Fowler Center serves children, teens and adults with disabilities including mental, physical and emotional challenges.

For more information on the event, contact the Fowler Center office at (989) 673-2050.

If you plan on being on the ice anytime soon, make your time count for the Fowler Center.

It’s worth it!
