HURON COUNTY ‹ Newcomer Timothy Rutkowski (D) defeated incumbent Mark Gaertner (D), who was his former boss, to become Huron County’s new prosecutor.
Rutkowski received 4,912 votes to Gaertner’s 3,315 votes.
Rutkowski, who is currently an assistant Tuscola County prosecutor, had tried two other times unsuccessfully to unseat his former boss.
Because there are no others running for the prosecutor’s office on the general election ballot, Rutkowski, at this point, goes on to the November election uncontested.
For Huron County Sheriff, Kelly Hanson’s 3,811 votes edged out incumbent Kent Tibbits, who received 3,142 votes.
Hanson will square off against newcomer Gene Bucholtz (D) in November.
For District #1 Commission, which covers Sebewaing and Fair Haven Township, John Horny (D) received 74 votes to edge out Theodore D. Maule (D), who received 21 votes.
Horny will square off against incumbent Timothy P. Rujan (R).
The general election is Tuesday, Nov. 4.
Huron County’s new Web site www.co.huron.mi.us is up and running. The site had some minor glitches during the election, but they have been worked out so the primary results are posted on line.
This is the first time Huron County has had a Web site, and the capability to post election results online.
