Girls’ district hoops: Kingston overwhelms Caseville

FAIRGROVE

Kingston (19-2) opened up a 25-0 lead after the opening quarter of its Division 4 girls’ basketball district opener with Caseville, and rode the early momentum to a convincing win on Monday at Akron-Fairgrove High School.

Lily Lyons led the Cardinals with 14 points, Jillyan Dinsmore had 11 points and Carley Smith scored 10 points.

Next up for Kingston is a semifinal matchup with Akron-Fairgrove at 7:30 tonight.

Division 3

At Millington

Reese 67, Otisville-LakeVille 13: Reese (19-2) rode a balanced offensive attack to an opening-round district win over LakeVille.

Madi Thompson led the way with 13 points for the Rockets, Zoey Persails contributed 11 points, Josie Johnson and Alex Reinert scored nine points each and Taylor Findlay, Maddi Osantowski and Andi Reinert had seven points each with Findlay adding five assists.

Reese faces New Lothrop (16-4) in a 5:30 p.m. semifinal showdown today.

Division 3

At Cass City

Unionville-Sebewaing Area 44, Laker High 32: Grace Williamson guided USA to the district-opening victory with her team-best 16 points, Maci Montgomery added 10 points and Rylee Zimmer pitched in eight points for the Patriots.

Next up for USA (11-8) is a 6 p.m. semifinal today against Bad Axe (4-15).

Division 3

At Cass City

Ubly 39, Cass City 21: Layna Mathewson and Brittany Hamilton had six points each to lead Cass City (11-10), which never found a rhythm and failed to recover from a 25-7 halftime deficit.
