John Thomas “Jack” Humpert, 73, died Saturday afternoon, August 3, 2013 at his residence. He was born August 7, 1939 in Saginaw County, son of the late Alvin and Bernice (Sheppard) Humpert. Jack was a 1958 graduate of Reese High School and attended Michigan State University for two years. On April 7, 1967 he married the former Jayne Krick in Reese. Jack was a farmer in the Reese area for many years before moving to Lewiston after his retirement. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Lewiston and a former member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Reese. His other memberships included Reese Chamber of Commerce, Eagles Aerie Lodge #3544 in Comins; and Moose Lodge #2495 in Lewiston. Jack and Jayne wintered in Bradenton, Florida for many years and he was an avid golfer. His other enjoyments included going on many cruises, NASCAR and deer hunting but his main enjoyment was being with his family, especially his eight beloved grandchildren. Surviving besides his wife Jayne are his two sons, one daughter and their spouses, Keith Humpert of Reese, Don and Diana Humpert of Frankenmuth and Kristine and Jerry Hawley of Reese; eight beloved grandchildren, Dustin Hawley and his wife Sarah, Lakeyn Humpert, Matthew Hawley and wife Taylor, Tyler and Abby Humpert, Megan, Derek and Shannon Humpert; his great-grandson, Liam Hawley and his “Little Man” Toby. In addition to his parents, Jack was predeceased by an infant brother, Don Humpert and a daughter-in-law, Tracy Humpert on September 12, 2005. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 8, from St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Reese. Fr. Jose’ Maria Cabrera will officiate, with committal services to follow in St. Elizabeth Cemetery. Jack’s family will receive friends at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home in Reese on Wednesday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. and at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of the Liturgy. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the donor’s favorite charity.
