THUMB AREA — It has been a busy and tragic week in the Thumb area between fatals, fires, and rescues.

There was a fire about 4 p.m. Sunday in one segment of the Meisner Court apartment complex in Sebewaing, which seems to have started in an attic of one apartment.

The Sebewaing Fire Department was assisted by the Owendale Fire Department and the fire was contained to that apartment. No one was injured.

Christopher Peters, 49, of Cass City was killed Friday night when the snowmobile he was riding near Houghton Lake left the roadway and struck a tree.

Although others he was riding with tried to help, Peters was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident remains under investigation.

About 8 p.m. Friday, the U. S. Cost Guard – Saginaw River Station and Bangor Fire Department rescued one person involved in an snowmobile accident off  of the Saginaw River.

The man was taken to the hospital in Bay City for treatment.

Also, the body of a 32-year old Marlette man who had been reported  missing by the Marlette Police Department earlier in the month was found Feb. 14 in Tuscola County in Koylton Township near Clothier and Cartwright roads, according to Michigan State Police Caro Post’s report.
